The T2 Social League

Welcome to the T2 Social League - a fun, flexible, and community-driven table tennis league designed for players who want to enjoy competitive matches in a friendly, social atmosphere, right in their own neighborhoods! 🏓 The league is open to anyone who owns a table tennis table and lives within a 10km radius of any of the Gauteng T2 Table Tennis Club's operational venues.
The idea is simple: bring the game to your garage, office, school, university or home, and connect with other table tennis enthusiasts in your area.

How the T2 Social League Works

STEP 1: Team Captain Registers the Team:

The team captain registers the team and pays the season fee. Your team can consist of 2 or more players. The captain is the main point of contact for scheduling and communication.

STEP 2: Orientation:

Once registered, the team captain (and any other interested team members) must participate in a short orientation (either online or in-person). This covers the league rules, how to submit scorecards, and key safety guidelines for hosting matches.

STEP 3: Host Home Matches:

Your team will host other teams at your home venue (garage, office, or wherever you have your table). You'll schedule these "home fixtures" with other team captains.

STEP 4: Honour your 'Away Fixtures':

Your team will travel to other teams' home venues to play "away fixtures." It's a great way to meet new people and play in different environments!

STEP 5: Submit Your Scorecards:

After every match in a fixture, both team captains is responsible for submitting the completed match scorecard. Match Scorecards must be submitted on the same day the fixture takes place.

STEP 6: Season Finals:

At the end of the season, the top 2 teams in the league (every division) will be invited to play a grand final (1st / 2nd place decider) at a formal Gauteng T2 Table Tennis Club session venue. This final will be formally umpired to ensure full adherence to official table tennis laws. The winner will have bragging rights on being the T2 Social League Champions of their division for the season!

The previous season's champions do not pay re-enrollment fees.

Home/Host team guidelines:

Playing Space: Ensure that the playing space is adequately sized and free from clutter/hazards. The playing area should provide enough room for players to move around comfortably without any obstruction.

Environment: Ensure that you've properly communicated with the Team Captain you're hosting - the hosted team should be comfortable and feel safe. Do not assume that they will be comfortable with pets or otherwise. If you're living on a complex/estate which has some visitor rules - be sure to communicate those rules in advance.

Clean Table: The table tennis table should be clean and free from any dust, dirt, or debris. Use a suitable table cleaner and a lint-free cloth to wipe down the table surface before matches to ensure optimal playing conditions.

Equipment Inspection: Before matches, inspect the table tennis table, net assembly, scoreboard (if any), playing area & match balls to ensure they are in good condition and meet league standards. Replace any damaged or worn-out equipment as needed.

Safety Hazards: Remove any safety hazards from the playing area, such as loose cables, slippery surfaces, or sharp objects. Ensure that the playing space is well-lit and ventilated to provide a safe and comfortable environment for players.

Seating for Away Team: Provide seating accommodations for the away team and their supporters, ensuring that there is adequate seating available outside the playing area. Not mandatory, but consider providing refreshments such as bottled water for visiting players as a gesture of hospitality. Remember that the away team will host you someday, so they will reciprocate your hospitality.

Sportsmanship: Extend a warm welcome to the away team upon their arrival and ensure they have everything they need. Foster a spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie by promoting a friendly and welcoming atmosphere during fixtures. Allow up to 5 minutes for the Away team to warm up and acclimate to the playing area and equipment.

Match Officials: If matches are officiated by league commissioned umpires, ensure they are provided with a suitable area to oversee matches and have clear visibility of the playing area. Respect the decisions of match officials and cooperate with them to ensure fair play.

Post-Match Procedures: After matches, ensure that any scorecards or match results are submitted promptly and accurately as per league regulations. Post a group teams selfie on your social media page and use tag @t2tabletennis (on Instagram) or @GautengT2 (on Facebook).
NB: Photos should be appropriate and compliment the spirit of the sport and not be defamatory/demeaning towards any persons.

Remember to also thank the away team for having the opportunity to host them and after they have departed, be sure to check-in that they have reached their destination safely.

Away/Visiting team guidelines:

Communicate with Host: Be sure to communicate with your host things like how many of you will be attending, what vehicle you would be driving and if there are any paraplegic or other accommodations that may be required.

Safety First: If for whatever reason, you do not feel comfortable or safe at a specific host and wish to either end the fixture before completion, or wish to cancel/avoid the fixture altogether - communicate your preference (with explanations) to the League Management and be prepared to lose all league points for that fixture. The League Management would communicate the walkover with the relevant opposition Team Captain.

Arrival Time: Arrive at the venue shortly before the scheduled start time of the fixture to allow for adequate preparation and warm-up. Punctuality is important to ensure that matches can start on time, and end in time. Park your vehicle where directed to by the host.

Respect the Host Venue: While you're being hosted, adhere to any reasonably communicated expectations of the host. If you feel the expectations are unreasonable, then you may opt to forfeit the fixture and leave (see above). Show utmost respect for your hosts venue and facilities. Follow any guidelines or instructions provided by the home team regarding the use of equipment, any facilities, seating arrangements, and other amenities. Do not, under any circumstances, pass any negative remarks or complaints about the venue, equipment, facilities or anything else provided/facilitated by the hosts. Do not retaliate or show any disrespect towards your hosts. Regard yourself liable should you break or damage any of the hosts property.

Equipment Preparation: Ensure that you have all the necessary equipment for the matches, including your own table tennis rackets, appropriate clothing/kit, and any personal items you may need (eg. water, towel,  first-aid kit, snacks, refreshments, etc). Do not expect the hosts to provide any of these to you.

Warm-Up: Take advantage of the warm-up time provided before fixtures to familiarize yourself with the playing conditions and adjust to the table and surroundings. Use this time to practice your strokes and get into the rhythm of play.

Courtesy and Sportsmanship: Maintain a courteous and respectful attitude towards the home team, any match officials, and fellow players throughout your visit. Embrace the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play, regardless of the outcome of the matches.

Adapt to Conditions: Be prepared to adapt to different playing conditions, including variations in table surface, lighting, and other environmental factors. Stay focused and maintain your concentration during matches, adjusting your game as needed.

Post-Match Procedures: After matches, ensure that any scorecards or match results are submitted promptly and accurately as per league regulations. Thank the home team for their hospitality and cooperation before departing from the venue.
WALKOVERS

Walkovers will be awarded to the Home Team on the following conditions/circumstances:

- If the away team fails to participate in 3 proposed invitations despite having their schedules accommodated by the hosts.
- if the away team fails to present themselves at the proposed venue within 10 minutes of the proposed date & time and no apologies communicated.
- if the away team fails to participate in the fixture from start to finish so that all matches in the fixture have been concluded.

A Walkover being awarded implies a 7 (seven) - 0 (nil) victory.
